Brownie & the Pizza Box

For whatever reason Brownie LOVES used pizza boxes. She doesn't much care for Pizza Hut's red box but she likes Papa John's white box and really likes Hungry Howie's yellow box. Go figure!

As if anyone needs another excuse to order pizza. lol

She plays with them, rubs against them, and uses them for a bed. She's laying on one right now in the kitchen.

The way I see it the only downside is around my waistline.

Brownie Loves To Wash

I have noticed more and more that Brownie washes more frequently and now almost every time I pet her. I'm not sure why that is. My guess is it's more of a sign of affection.

As fleas are starting to hatch I gave her an external liquid treatment to keep the bugs off. You may remember that last year I had no success with putting a flea collar on her and the flea powder was equally as unwelcome. But this treatment seems to have worked out well.

Now I am trying to keep up frequent bushings to help her shed her winter coat. When I'm outside with her every time I pet her there's quite viable fur flying everywhere! I'm half tempted to take her to a groomer.

These past few months I have noticed her attitude changing as she becomes more content to just sleep when she's in the house. But when she's outside hiding under the fuel oil drum (she uses it sorta like a duck blind) she quite actively watches the birds and other animals. When she's in front she likes watching cars pass by and kids play. And when nothing's happening to tweak her interests she just lightly naps. I worry about that napping in front because in back she has the fence to keep out dogs and I still remember how I lost my Hairy. Besides it's gator mating season and they do pop up around here every once in a while. I wouldn't want her to be someone's tasty treat!

New Year, New Times

It is a cold day today in Florida and part of a cold week. I can't think of the last time it's been this cold here all in a stretch.

Well it's been some time since the passing of Blackie & Hairy. I suppose the time has come to rename my blog and move forward. I'm not sure what to call it yet though.

Sadly the irony is that I began this blog thinking that Blackie would not last long due to natural causes, which of course was not how he came to his end. And I had thought my dear Hairy would be with me for a long time to come, but she was murdered only a few days later in my carport by 2 often let loose pit pulls. I have to wonder if she would have ran to safety instead of trying to be friendly had Blackie still been around to sound the alarm.

How odd that hardly an hour goes by that I still don't think of Hairykins, and then of Blackie. Perhaps it's that I so miss the fact that they 3 were like a complementary unit as each filled a facet of needs. Regardless what's most sad is that Brownie seems to need a playmate and I have no idea what kind of pet to look for. All I know is I'm told that at best an adult cat will only tolerate other cats they didn't grow up with and that even Blackie & Hairy didn't much like how Brownie like to practice fighting. She's mostly a defender BTW. Hairy (having no claws) was a total pacifist and Blackie only liked to fight to protect or to eat.
